Time. Space. Transmat

Time. Space. Transmat is a hybrid online and physical exhibition curated by Tom Milnes for Polygon Palm. Developed as an embassy of The Wrong Biennale, the project brings together work by Joseph Farbrook, Yichu Li, Kimberly Lyle, David Lisser, Micheál O’Connell / Mark O’Knee, and Tom Milnes. Borrowing its title from Juan Atkins’ Model 500 track, the exhibition explores translation, transportation and transmogrification in a networked age, asking how artificial intelligence, machine mediation and digital transmission reshape communication, identity and material form. Each online work occupies a distinct web environment in which errors, delays and mistranslations reveal systems that are never fully under human control.

The project unfolded across several connected iterations. It ran online through Polygon Palm and The Wrong Biennale from November 2025 to March 2026, and was extended as Time Space Pixel Transmat for Piksel25 at Studio 207 in Bergen, Norway, from 20 to 23 November 2025. Rather than simply transferring the website into a gallery, the Piksel presentation used the festival’s IDLE infrastructure to create feedback between code, audience activity and physical space. A further material re-imagining opened at UNDER Project Space, Plymouth, on 20 March 2026 and continued until 28 March. Here, screen-based works were translated into sound, performance, etching, sculpture, print and installation, foregrounding the creative and critical potential of drift, glitch and imperfect transmission between virtual and physical environments.
